Don Morris' Salcombe Trip
Club member Don Morris was saving his pennies for his dream boat.
He had his eye on a Hunter 273 but was looking to enter the market for one next year (2020) however as it happened one came up for sale in Salcombe so Don went to investigate.
After a quick chat with the owner & a drive down to Salcombe the deal was done and Don found himself the proud owner of a Hunter 273. (See picture further below).
A few more visits ensued and the course was set albeit Don needed to recruit fellow club members for the crew so experienced club members and sailors Erik Torkildsen & Geoff Tanner offered their services and signed up for the trip.
Careful planning in the club house on a Sunday followed (with well needed ale to steady the minds) and the date was set.
They set off early on Friday 28th June driving down to Salcombe where they set up and set sail the next day on the morning tide on Saturday 29th June.
The trip went without any issue or drama and stop overs included:
They managed to return to the club late Wednesday 3rd July all intact in ship shape fashion.
Don is now enjoying his new boat and aims to take it out in the forthcoming Regatta.
The boat is named Beetle Juice (or similar!) so keep an eye out for it. As you can see below she is a fine vessel!
